Privacy Policy
Updated October 22, 2026 · adds iCloud Sync, link previews, spaces and the Reading List
In short: omuo collects nothing. We have no servers, no accounts and no analytics. What you keep in omuo stays on your iPhone, encrypted, and only you can open it.
What we collect
Nothing. omuo doesn't send us your browsing, your searches, your location, crash reports, usage statistics or any identifier. There is no account to create. We couldn't hand your data to anyone, because we never have it.
What stays on your iPhone
Your tabs, history, bookmarks, downloads list, site settings, saved site icons and settings are stored on your device and encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using a key kept in your iPhone's Keychain that never leaves the device and isn't included in backups. Incognito tabs keep no history, and their cookies and site data are thrown away when you close them. You can delete everything at any time in Settings › Clear Browsing Data, or with Burn Everything.
Websites can store cookies and site data in omuo, as in any browser. These are kept on your device by Apple's WebKit, protected by iOS, and excluded from backups. omuo blocks third-party cookies by default.
Who omuo talks to
- The websites you open. Like every browser, omuo sends your requests to the sites you visit, and those sites see your IP address and what you ask them for. Their own privacy policies apply. omuo blocks known ad and tracking servers, strips tracking parameters from links, and sends Global Privacy Control by default.
- Your search engine. What you search for goes to the engine you choose (DuckDuckGo by default). Search suggestions are off by default; if you turn them on, what you type in the search field is sent to that engine as you type, except in incognito.
- A site's own icon. To show a site's icon, omuo fetches it from that same site, without cookies.
- Link previews. When you long-press a link, omuo fetches that page once, without cookies, to show a short summary of it. You can turn this off in Settings › Tabs.
- Your iCloud, if you turn on iCloud Sync. Sync is off until you turn it on. Then your bookmarks, pinned sites, spaces and boosts are stored in your own iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit), encrypted on your iPhone before they leave with a key that only your devices have; it travels between them in iCloud Keychain. Apple stores the encrypted data but can't read it, and we never see it. History, tabs and site data never sync.
- Extensions you choose to install. When you add an extension from the Chrome Web Store, omuo downloads it from Google. Extensions you install can read and change the pages they're allowed on; omuo asks before giving them access.
Features that use your device
- Face ID is handled by iOS. omuo only learns whether you were recognised, never your face data.
- Summaries and translation run on your iPhone (with Apple Intelligence where available). Pages are never sent to an AI service.
- Camera, microphone and location are only used when a website asks and you allow it, each time. omuo doesn't keep them.
- Widgets and Live Activities show no browsing data, except a download's file name while it downloads (never for incognito downloads).
- Importing reads only the bookmarks and history in the file you choose. Passwords and cards in an export are never opened.
- The privacy report counts the trackers pages tried to load, on your iPhone only, for the last 30 days. Incognito is never counted.
- Spaces each keep their own cookies and logins on your iPhone. Deleting a space deletes its data.
- Reading List pages are saved whole and encrypted on your iPhone, and open with no connection and no scripts.
- Siri, Shortcuts and the share sheet only pass omuo what you ask them to (a search, a link). They run on your iPhone.
Children
omuo doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. If omuo ever starts collecting anything, we'll say so here first, and in the app.
